A Buying Agents guide to buying a house in East Sussex.  East and Mid Sussex borders with Surrey to the north & Kent to the East.  It blends with West Sussex at around Petworth and the South meets the sea at Brighton.  There is an amazing variety of countryside such as the rolling hills of the south downs and the expanse of the Forest of Ashdown as well as beautiful coastal areas such as beachy head, the seven sisters, South lancing & Hove.

Transport in the area is fantastic – with road links such as the M23 and the A272. Commuting by train is exceptional from either Haywards Heath, Gatwick or Balcombe. You can expect to travel usually in 40 – 50 mins to the centre of London. So you get the best of both worlds – countryside with a quick commute.

There are lovely villages such as Lindfield, Cuckfield, Ditchling & Hurstpierpoint. And larger towns & cities such as Brighton, Horsham, Lewes & Tunbridge Wells.

There is variety in the style of houses you can buy from the traditional Sussex farmhouse as well as gorgeous cottages and a few Georgian gems. There are some wonderful barn conversions in the area and Horsham stone roofed beauties. Many properties that our clients consider will have the addition of some fields along with their garden and often some stunning views due to the wonderful hills and valleys in the area.

You often get ‘more for your money’ in Mid/ East Sussex compared to West Sussex or Hampshire.

We are lucky with the education options in the area – fantastic local primary & secondary schools as well as colleges for sixth form such as Bhasvic & Colliers. Private options include prep schools such as Handcross Park, Cottesmore, Brambletye, Cumnor House & Windlesham. The senior schools are amazing with Hurst College, Brighton College, Ardingly & Worth.
