About George

George is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and his property career spans 25 years mainly as a Partner with Strutt & Parker in Newbury, Winchester and London.

George joined JMChase Property Advice and Acquisition to head up the Country House team working as a buying agent across Hampshire, West Berkshire and Wiltshire. Having lived in Hampshire all of his life, George has a passion for all things Country and all things sport. He is married to Natalie and has three boys who are educated locally. Alongside property he coaches cricket for his local village and for Hampshire Cricket. He enjoys fishing on the River Itchen, breeding poultry and flying his roller pigeons. His longevity in the area means he has knowledge, and the depth of and necessary contacts to assist his clients in the search for their new house!  He regularly auctioneers and has raised over £1,000,000 for charities.

Work Life

He started his work life as a land agent in the midlands and having qualified move back home to Winchester where he cut his teeth working in the country house department at James Harris (which was bought out by Savills in 1998).  He moved to Strutt & Parker in 1999 and started an 18 year career that saw him the Newbury estate agency area. After a four month sabbatical he returned to be made a Partner and head of the Winchester office.  After 3 years he moved to London to expand his experience and joined the Country House Department where his focus was selling some of the south of England’s finest houses from Kent down to Cornwall.  In 2009 after the credit crunch he returned to run Strutt’s Winchester office which he did until he left the firm in 2016.

In 2019 he joined JMChase returning to the industry having identified that The Buying side of the industry might be more suitable to his personality!

Since joining JMChase he has been one of the most prolific Buyer’s Agents in Hampshire, Berkshire the surrounding counties. He has benefited from living and working on the patch all of his life and have extensive social and professional contacts that ensure his clients are getting access to the whole market, that includes all the off market houses.

Home Life

George has lived just outside Winchester almost all of his life, with a few years nearer Newbury, but still in Hampshire.

His father still lives in the village he grew up in and this have provided a great foundation for his knowledge of the area.

Married to Natalie who works as a Investment Manager for Hamish Leng and Company, they have three boys aged 20, 18 and 13.  The boys have been educated at The Pilgrims School and King Edwards XI School in Southampton.

George has been heavily involved in the local community and coaches cricket at Easton and Martry Worthy Cricket Club and used to be involved in the junior section of Hampshire CC.

He gets involved with a number of charities often as their auctioneer or quiz master.

Poultry has been an interest since he was seven years old and it remains so as he breeds chickens and ducks. During COVID he started bee keeping and while he considers himself one of the world’s worst bee keepers, it has become a great way to escape the day to day challenges!

If he could do one thing only for the rest of his life, it would probably be fishing. Having grown up on the banks of the Itchen it is an activity that he truly loves, which is handy with Hampshire having some of the world’s finest chalkstreams!

Social Media

Over the last year I have tried to engage more through Instagram and started producing (amongst other topics) village reviews through the Instagram Reels.  The aim is for followers to be able to get a taste of what goes on in each village I cover. My handle for this is @georgeburnand.buyingagent.

Being a Buying Agent:

“Working in the industry one has to love houses! You have to love being around people as much and what really gets me excited it finding the right house for clients.  Amazingly about 70% of the houses we end up buying for clients never come to the open market and that is due to my contacts in the area and the local knowledge I have built up over the last 50+ years!”
